Hi Readers,
With our schedules changed, some of us are still in online summer classes at home lounging around; still in our pyjamas. Since COVID started, it has been forever since I have been able to experience what it feels like to have a normal routine. I feel like I have an activity block. What I call activity block looks like sleeping in a little too much or being on my devices for a little too long. Let me try to explain, I used to have a lot of extracurricular activities and now whatever I have is on Zoom. The thing is I feel like I am still getting my stuff done. I just finished my courses and I did really well. I am also still having fun with my Dramaway friends but on a computer. And yet, for some reason a lot of times I feel stuck, like a rubber boot stuck in the muck even though my foot is free. I am guessing that I am not the only one.
The answer might be to try new things. I realized this yesterday when I was exercising. Part of my exercise routine was to do a step up. This is easy for most people but NOT FOR ME. On top of it, I had to carry weights. I need to hold a weight, step up, and hold my knee up which sounds like a perfect recipe for a bump on the head. Anyway, my first set went as predicted, horribly. Shockingly, my next step-ups got better and better. I could not believe it. I was like” Oh my goodness, this is unbelievable! My feet, legs and balance are working the way they should!!!” For a moment, it gave me an energy boost, almost like a burst of positivity. I did not feel stuck. I realized that I have to challenge myself to do more activities that get me out of my comfort zone.
I highly recommend trying something new especially if you are feeling stuck. What have you got to lose? You are literally stuck at home right now. Who knows, both the foot and the boot will get free.
Some other suggestions to get unstuck:
Goal setting is really important to keep from feeling stuck
Exercise
Get outside
Try new things
Talk to someone - If you are really stuck, find a life coach, a parent or a family doctor to help you succeed
Be mindful of your long-term goals. For example, these goals change all the time. I do not know what I am going to do in life. This stresses me out. If your goals are taking too long and are making you nervous, come up with short-term goals. Making a SMART goals plan. Here is a video below to help you. Your goals can be anything you want.
Right now, I am focusing on getting stronger. We are following a 4- week strength training program. There are so many choices on the internet to choose from but it is UP TO YOU to find the one that works for you. In the past, I have also followed 30-day meal plans that are different. The key is to try new things-- even spicy foods if you do not like spicy food. I hope to motivate you to get unstuck by telling you to do what you might say no to. You can surprise yourself and overcome your fear.
Be kind to yourself and start simple before you challenge yourself too much.
